Memorial Bottle
Theme : The Sea
The objects in this bottle are all made of wood from the S.S. Santampa, a cargo ship which was wrecked off Sker Point, near Porthcawl on 23rd April, 1947. The Mumbles lifeboat, "Edward Prince of Wales" went to her rescue but it capsized in the terrible storm. All 39 crew of the S.S.Santampa were drowned, as were all 8 Mumbles lifeboatmen. This bottle contains objects which are too large to have been put in through the bottle's neck. The method is similar to putting a ship into a bottle. The objects are all hinged so they can be put in flat and then opened out once they are inside the bottle.
